North Island Halloween dog events

1. Pets in the City 'Bark & Boo Bash' (Auckland North Shore)

  • When: Thursday, 29 October 2026
  • The details: Pets in the City is hosting a Haunted Howl-O-Ween daycare party with themed activities and socialisation games. This is a dogs-only event for existing customers, rather than a public gathering for dogs and their owners. Check the Facebook event page for booking details.

They will be awarding exciting prizes for the best-dressed dog, so it’s the perfect excuse to get creative with a cute, creepy, or hilarious costume. Because spaces are strictly limited, you will need to book a daycare spot in advance to secure your dog's place at the party. It’s an indoor setting where social pups can enjoy Halloween-themed play and activities.

Keep an eye on their social pages to lock in your daycare reservation before spots vanish!

The day will also raise funds for The Dog Rescue Project. Enter the costume competition with a cash donation for a chance to win three free days of daycare, or donate to enter the guess-the-treats-in-the-jar competition, with the closest guess winning the whole jar. There’s also a Halloween raffle offering the chance to win a free groom, plus a spooky photo booth for pups attending on Friday, 30 October. 🐕 Tips for a safe and happy outing

Before heading out to a local dog costume competition or parade, keep your dog's safety, comfort, and well-being at the forefront:

  • Test outfits early: let your dog try on any outfit well before Halloween day. Skip the full costume entirely if they freeze or look stressed.
  • Prioritise comfort: ensure their costume is lightweight, breathable, and allows for a full range of motion, normal breathing, and unobstructed vision.
  • Try a matching compromise: if your dog objects to wearing a costume, don't force it! Instead, dress up yourself and let your pup join the theme with a simple accessory, such as a seasonal bandana or spooky collar.
  • Watch the body language: keep a close eye on your dog's cues. Local events can be loud and busy; if they show signs of stress or overwhelm, take a quiet break away from the crowds.
  • Be accountable: ensure your dogs are registered, friendly, and comfortable around other people and pets. Always bring plenty of fresh water and waste bags to keep our public spaces clean.

For small dogs who are comfortable wearing accessories, a parody apron could be a cute, simple costume idea. Explore our Waffle’s Stash feature for coffee-shop and pizza-themed designs.
